Great beginner Triathlon for those wanting to dip their toes into first open water swim
Swim - 200 m Roundhay Park Waterloo Lake
Cycling- 10k circular route around park on closed roads
Run-2.5k circular route around park
The Leeds GoTri event is one of several events that form part of the World Triathlon Series in Leeds. It's pitched as an entry level event and priced to encourage people to get into triathlons.
Annual in June
The open water swim was over and done within 6 minutes and I wasn't alone swimming breaststroke. Despite about 25 people setting off in each wave the water didn't feel particularly crowded. There was a ramp to exit the lake making for a more graceful exit than being hauled onto the pontoon at the taster session. After a fairly long run uphill from the lake to transition, the cycle climbs out the park and involves a 2 lap closed road circuit - I wasn't so keen on this as it involved several tight turns when looping back round. The run starts with a steep uphill climb but once that' s over it's pretty flat and downhill aside from a steady climb when the finish line is in sight. \

If time matters treat the transition area as fourth discipline. No faffing and remember where your bike is!
People were using hybids, mountain and road bikes. Very few people were in Tri suits, with most people pulling on shorts and tops over swimming costumes after the swim with trainers.
Ahead of the event I had done a weekly run, swim and spin session with the odd cycle outdoors. Listening to the BBC Tripod podcasts in the run up which featured 3 people training for their first triathlons of varying distances was a great motivator. I highly recommend the GoTri event as an intro to open water, will definitely do it again, maybe even giving the Sprint distance a go next year if I can manage some open water swim
Great beginner Triathlon with mangeable distances and routes.
Indoor swimming pool - 180 m
Cycling- 12k circular route on open roads. Well marshalled
Run-2.5k circular route on local paths.
The Try and a Tri and Sprint are organised annually by Harrogate Tri Club who meet and practice at Ashville school where the event is held
The start , finish , transition area and swimming pool are within the school grounds. The school has good facilities , showers and toilets available and outside refreshments are available.
Members of the Tri club volunteer to marshal and time event and are very helpful and encouraging.
For more information on the clib and how to enter follow the link below:-
The swim is 180m in an indoor swimming pool . Swimmers set off at timed intervals in lanes.
The cycle and run are circular routes (twice round for those doing sprint)
The cycle route is on open roads. It is well marshalled and there is only one right turn. There is a hill which can be challenging, people do get off and walk as needed. The route as a whole is undulating with a steady incline back to the transition area and fininsh .
Run- All on paths- slight ascent as leaving transition and return
If time matters treat the transition area as fourth discipline. No faffing.
I have tried this Tri a couple of times now. On my first attempt I used my hybrid Kona Splice which was fine. Second attempt I had upgraded to a road bike( Liv Avail)with SPDs. Its not necessary though to splash out on specialist equipment. People were using hybids, mountain and road bikes. Very few people were in Tri suits, with most people pulling on shorts and tops over swimming costumes after the swim with trainers.
A Chance to explore the Yorkshire Coast whilst doing a GO TRI.
2km Run 6.5km Ride 2km Run.
All on the beautiful coast with viewing screens and wetland habitats.
Aimed at beginners, this first event at Ravenscar is not to be missed.

Aimed at beginners the route will be level on mixed terrain. All that is required is a bike and pair of trainers.
Great way to try a multi sport without the swimming.
